Pope Francis Understands The Founding Ideal

Whatever one’s opinion might be of Pope Francis’ message before Congress – on substantive issue I confess a few conflicts – he clearly is a companion to a key foundation of the Founding American Ideal.  The “unalienable” rights implicitly accompanying each human being and by extension the sacred duty of those, to which the consenting governed charge their elected officials, to fully express.

In his, Pope Francis’, own words: “Called to defend and preserve the dignity of your fellow citizens in the tireless and demanding pursuit of the common good.” The “good” that is “common” to all is the very Ideal the Founding Fathers expressed; those truths which we hold to be self-evident; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness which, as you know, are not a function of government but decidedly despite governance.
