The Richness of the American Ideal is no longer taught in our schools. The language on the Statue in New York Harbor is now more of an epitaph used to mock a compelling promise; one that drew millions from the Old World to and through the gates of Ellis Island. There was a time when it was clear that the “melting pot” was the driving desire to become “a part of” and not “separate from”, that the strength of this Naton was the certainty of the Individuals Virtue held in trust along with the other truths we hold to be self-evident.
Many a defining moment fill the chronicles that report of this Nations rise but do you know of the Newburgh Conspiracy (1782)? The War, it would seem, with the British had been settle and yet battle pay for the Continental Army as well as the means for settling payment had not yet been determined. Had Washington not discovered the plan to challenge the fragile composition that was (then) the U.S. Congress this group of subversives would have enforced military control destroying any hope of a representative government.
Where it not for Washingtons belief in the promise implicit in the Declaration of Independence, well, what then? Does Trump have enough time to reacquaint a nation with its noble cause.
I do not believe in coincidence, but I do believe in intervening truths; those things that are infallible and immutable; I think of them as absolutes, as certainties. On occasion they will rise from their temporary rest, many will sense their occurrence as if a type of dissonance in the fabric of reality, a reminder, a wake-up call. Yes, I believe in destiny, the inevitability of outcome; that as “practice does make the master” so does “destiny require one to accept their place in its processes.”
The events occurring today in Israel (and then in Egypt) may for many be seen as a sales convention for Arms Dealers for others a significant foreign policy event or, just perhaps, a marvelous demonstration of Trumps unique capacity, his ability to identify a problem, identify key beneficiaries (Partners), compel participation of these key partners and then asymmetrically leverage the posture of the U.S. as a bonding agent which become the tool for keeping them engaged. No saber rattling required and no late-night wing of U.S. Cargo aircraft drop-shipping pallets of currency.
Dismissing the significance of the “Making America Great Again” meme silences a greater meaning, numbs the mind into a catatonic state that keeps one from exploring the domain that lives just beyond the 5-second soundbite or the ridicule of a mindless troll. The support for and the endurance of the American People is the pulse of the Nation’s heart, a heart that has been severely fractured and remains strangely codependent both with and on a political organism that has seduced them into submission.
Still, it was a good, a very good day. Who knows, if the Administration can keep the Brit IC and their Master’s out of the process there’s a good chance of more (good days) to come.
