A Farewell to Remember!

I’ve occasion to enjoy the study of history.  The intrigue of amassing and tracing past experiences developed from, largely, personal trials forcing me to look for understanding, for direction, for resolution.

I found, quite interestingly enough, that ones present circumstances have company in the archives of those lives who have gone before and I found little difference in “then” versus “now” travails. In short, time passes by, faces may change yet – the ruse of life’s routines remain, remarkably static.

Somewhere along the way, I recall writing a piece condensing what was for me, an ultimate resolution and I penned the observation in this fashion:  “Mans ultimate goal is to find means and palette for voiding his divisive tendencies.”  I haven’t perfected the art of actually accomplishing this loft goal though I do acknowledge its value.

To the point of this then; it would seem, that the “Means” is apparent, yet the “Palette” is yet sufficiently refined to consistently persist and to prevail!  Ah yes, the weaknesses of mortal man!  We are flawed but it would seem that this is only true to the extent we concede to its premise…

I still believe this Country is Exceptional! It’s Foundational Core is, Exceptional!  The Heart of its People, Exceptional! Its flaws, the Rare Exception!

What then is the mortar that binds the masonry of this writings structure?  Simple, this Country is Exceptional as its Foundations are proven by the ribbon-of-history sanctioning both its virtue and proofing it serum!

READ and consider the following excerpt from George Washington’s Farewell Address (September 17, 1796)!   This man was a very simple Individual, a Farmer, a Surveyor, a Son and a Soldier!

“The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit

of revenge natural to party dissention, which in different ages & countries

has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.

But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The

disorders & miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to

seek security & repose in the absolute power of an Individual: and sooner or

later the chief of some prevailing faction more able or more fortunate than

his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation,

on the ruins of Public Liberty.

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless

ought not to be entirely out of sight) the common & continual mischiefs of

the spirit of Party are sufficient to make it the interest and the duty of a wise

People to discourage and restrain it!”

One of the most magnificent features of the “ribbon of history” is that it fabulously records the torment of a Mirrors Truths – the Irony and the Imagery!  Both reveal the measure of lessons long lost and yet unlearned!
