It was December 1989, central Mediterranean Island Nation of Malta that then President George H.W. Bush began the first phase of what would become the Post-Soviet era of conquest. Bush assured Gorbachev that the U.S. would not take advantage of revolutions occurring in Eastern Europe. (the collapsing Soviet/Eastern Block).

While to many who studied the geopolitical ambiguities of the Cold War era it seemed inevitable that U.S.S.R. had found itself in irreversible freefall I doubt few, myself included, anticipated the speed with which its collapse would occur. Still, even while and long after the Berlin Wall crumbled, the U.S. and its Euro allies continued to assure Russia that the expansion of NATO would not occur.  Read more...
