The conversation relating to Greenland’s future is cluttered with defiance. I believe a brief review of history just might help clear up a few issues. I came across this “clip” and while it deals mainly with France it’s important to consider that the entirety of Europe has gone through the same patterns of expansion/contraction. Italy, for example, has been invaded at least 11 times before it was officially united (as “Italy”) in 1861 and there are several Countries that have been wiped off the map examples being Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Prussia.
The dominant component of arguments in opposition to the U.S. acquisition of Greenland, regardless of what form it may take, contains an infuriating level of ignorance. Greenland is occupied, largely, by the Greenlandic Inuit (nearly 90% of the population) and while still considered part of the Danish Realm it is a self-governed, autonomous territory and like Canada it remains the Subject of a Monarchical claim.
The hypocrisy laden obstacle preventing a rational resolution is native to those who express contempt for the very liberty they enjoy and then use as a tool for keeping others from enjoying the very same privilege.
Greenlanders should be the ones to determine their future, period.
