Comment: The allocated time-slot didn’t allow for Michael and I to get into any real depth as to the legitimacy issue however if we had I would hope to have made the following points: The actions of Perry are not that dissimilar to those of Boehner, from the perspective of motivation; for a representative democracy to function as a republic there must be absolute conviction in the uniformity of the law and its applicability. The other point I would have made is that, in both instances, we are able to observe the extremes that occur when the law is not uniformly and equally applied.
