Perpetual Crisis Syndrome

Ever present in the mind is the native ambition of what I often refer to as a Cause Worth Perfecting. A simple yet profound motive force that compels one to pursue outcome, to persist through seemingly impossible odds, to navigate through even the most basic torsional forces creating friction along the path of ones intended course.

“The appeal of purpose fulfilled illuminates the path, lifts the fallen and holds resolute the humble resolve of hope.”

But what are we to make of a committed pestilence adverse to the notion of purpose? It seems…

Budget: Question with a Why

Tolerance is one of those words that has become so embossed with all sorts of tentative notions. Tolerance for errors in judgment, tolerance for errors of omission, tolerance for acts of commission and tolerance, well, for being tolerant.  What a supremely debilitating notion this word has become. Are you growing weary and intolerant of tolerance?  Frankly, I’m well past the query stage.

In a recent article on the subject of the Middle-East I composed a phrase to convey a sentiment; in fact, I composed two specific phrases to convey the very same sentiment approaching the ambition from two distinctly different philosophical perspectives. I think it appropriate that I should reintroduce the first of the two here, the other in short order:

Egypt: The Pawn of Relativism

“God made man in his own image….” is a phrase that most folks familiar with the Old Testament will easily recognize.  For many years I accepted the phrase as a matter of fact yet as time continued its predictable march forward I discovered and acquired a entirely different interpretation; that is to say, a completely different understanding. For me it occurred somewhat serendipitously on the occasion when I would observe an artist painting or when reading the novel The Agony and The Ecstasy and being taken by Michael Angelo’s response when asked how he was able to create works of art from a simple block of marble. Confessing in advance that my recollection of his response is rather vague, I am prone to rest for the moment on the following version: I hold an image in my mind and remove the excess marble until its likeness is revealed.

111th Congress: Faithful Indifference

Let us all be please that we are able to close out the season of political indiscretions each recorded by a political system (not to be confused with a form of government) known for an accomplished ability to conceal its hubris and contempt for the publics interests. The casual observer need only consider the closing week of 2010 to refine ones view of whether we’ve moved closer to or further from the bar measuring success.  In deed, the 111th Congress and its Faithful Indifference has made its mark on the tally board registering self-governments accomplishments.

Refusing Success

It often seems that even ambivalence begets the ambivalent. No?  A thought perhaps best expressed by the simplicity of the following quip: There’s no sense wondering if there will be a positive outcome when none seem to care.

“Teach the willing and they will learn. Inspire the listener and they will engage. Leading a legion charged with expectation becomes quite rewarding; moving the unwilling exhausts the agile mind.

A great symphony of potential surrounds the Created while the Creator stirs the universe with signs of endless reward; yet He leaves all outcomes, certain as the two faces of a coin, to the uncertain processes of ones silent discretions.  Certain as the outcomes may be, still the chosen oft stand unwilling, Refusing Success.”
