Taxation: Never Flat or Fair

As the practice of politicking continues its march toward the 2012 Presidential Election I’m reminded of how little the political conversation rarely, if ever, revolves around substantive issues although at the same time I confess that the current cycles has drawn a tad closer to one single issue that has long escaped the discipline of close inspection, deliberate inquiry and truly dedicated offering. This single issue is Taxation and we have Herman Cain to thank for pushing topic to the surface. Let’s hope we can take it the rest of the way!

The Anatomy of Debt & Grading

Over the coming weeks there will undoubtedly be endless and seemingly incongruent commentaries over the S & P downgrading of U.S. Debt and why, with so many countries around the globe with far greater debt-hurdles (Japan for example), only the U.S.?  I know, I really must stop thinking rationally.

Many like myself will wonder why the wait and where exactly are Grading Agencies Moody’s and Fitch after all if the standards of practice are based on so-called fundamentals then is one to assume that uniformity is only measured by the degree of separation and methods which define their application? Or, is one only to conclude that the degree of application is only measured by the uniformity of the desired self-define prophesying upon which these Agencies can agree?

Citizenry: Transitions of Conscience

“Time it was not so long ago when what I thought and believed was based on what it was I knew; so it appeared. The ring of sound, the maize of imagery mixed amid the references that transfixed as if certain then came to be as it was, then to be that it was so and thus the norm as it was to be.

Quite assured of itself the process was and I listened intently taking notes even as I would remark to myself with delight that a venture such as this be undertaken and that I was to be afforded companionship along the way with the many pulling in accord and in common to that which seemed the norm.

When Silence Speaks

In a recent interview I was asked the following question: “Looking at the presidential candidates, considering the economic crisis before us, which one strikes you as the best equipped to deal with this Nations problems?”  I quickly responded, “Which one?”

It requires no great stretch of the imagination to be impressed by the many problems that require serious attention and to be quite honest, I observe no single Candidate offering any stand-out proposition in possession of a deliberate strategy or purpose; all I do hear is the predictable ambiguity of political hedging. Could it be that they simply don’t know? Or, even more troubling; could it be that winning the office is more about being successful at telling the Public something other than what they should or for that matter, need to know.

The Un-Tax: Releasing Productive Capacity

There’s clearly no mistaking the economic devastation that continues to wage war upon the American landscape. Why is it there’s complete silence on the part of government or any of the media talking-heads that are willing to offer-up any of the possible mechanism available to defeat the unstoppable force that seems determined to push this Country over the cliff?  Like many I continue be disturbed that the only measure of observed persistence lies in the Government’s willingness to ignore what is so painfully obvious to everyone else. Moreover, I continue to hope that at least one of the Presidential Candidates will take up the challenge though as it is they seem to be more interested in staging and tinkering with all things mundane and meaningless.
