The Signs of Failure

Alexis de Tocqueville was a mid-18th century French politician and historian who, in combination with his travels to America and observations of his own country’s political and social turmoil, composed various essays which chronicle his observations. As I recall, in his work entitled Democracy in America, he posed the following comment:

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”

I’ve always been struck by this comment and was reminded of the same when hearing Ted Kennedy, Jr. deliver the eulogy at his father’s funeral mass.  As near as I recall it, his words were as follows:

The Outcome of Pelagius

I love the idea of freedom and all that accompanies ones discerning processes engaged in its perfecting.  I believe the concept of freedom is at the heart of every human beings search for fulfillment; truly, one must be free to become what they may.  On a spiritual plain we might even consider that it is the implicit law of Devine Providence or Natural Law. For Mans growth and expression to occur, must he not also be free to engage the processes necessary for expressing ones Providential Design?  I believe the answer is an unqualified yes!

The Door Swings Both Ways

Careful, don’t let the door hit you on the way “in”; yes in deed, it definitely swings both ways!

The build-up to the election has reached a crescendo all it’s own with one after the other political machine punch-drunk with positionings of various kinds and politicians fatigued by the routine.  I mean, really how many variations is there on the theme “…if you elect me I’ll go to Washington and get the government busy creating jobs and clean out the partisan sewage.”  Selah!

Clintonology Defines the Process

Many, me included, believe we are living in a time that future generation will see as an extraordinary period in American history. For well over a century the American form of government has been under assault being persistently probed by progressive interest looking for means and methods by which its deliberate design regiments might be overcome. The most significant moves towards these ends appeared most conspicuously with the first Roosevelt Administration and continued onward regardless of the party in power. It is my hope, if the U.S. Constitution survives, that we are about to embark on a journey away from our own self-destruction.

Union – What you do; Reveals!

“Action reveals the unspoken word; recording for all time what one had concealed by silence.”

“What you do speaks so loud, I can not hear what you say.”

I must confess I do love phrases such as these; an assembly of simple words set in their own unique pattern in such a way that they are both rhythmic to the ear and intimidating in their meaning.  The first series is my own, the latter belongs to Emerson.
